Hello fellow investors, this has been one heck of a month for my portfolio. It seems that daily swings which are more than a month’s wage are now more a rule than an exception. Also, this week was the worst week I’ve had since starting my investing journey. Even though I am still up a decent amount this month, the end of February has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Anyways, let’s get into my portfolio update for February 2021.
Don’t forget that you can always find an up-to-date overview of all the ‘numbers’ in my portfolio on the My Portfolio page.
Portfolio overview
Last month I said that January was my most volatile month so far. In hindsight, January was nothing compared to February. In particular, the last week of February. Although, I am still up quite a decent amount this month alone (around €8000), at one point I was up almost €20 000. In the last 7 days, my portfolio went down around €12 000. Speaking of big swings! I have never had a month in which my net worth went down. But seeing these swings, I will not be surprised if it happens in the near future.
I made a small change in my crypto portfolio. I sold my Litecoin for Cardano as well. I guess staking is kind of addicting. Cardano is also one of the only cryptocurrencies that have been performing pretty well the last week. For now, it seems like it was a good decision.
Monthly Cash-flow
My monthly cash flow is still the same. I saved a bit differently than my standard plan this month though. I only managed to save €1600 in total because I had some expenses for a backpacking trip that I am planning with some friends. Hopefully, I can get back to the plan this month. I also saved more cash than usual because I will need cash for a possible real estate investment that I am planning for with 2 friends/partners.
Portfolio Allocation
- Cash: Saved €1000
- Stocks: Invested €500 – €499.09 appreciation
- Crypto: Invested €100 – €7168.12 appreciation (!!)
Last month I predicted that 2021 would be a big rollercoaster. February has already confirmed this big time. The results of February look like they are great. Don’t get me wrong, they really are. That being said, it was a lot better at some point. It just shows that no investment just goes straight up. The least of all cryptocurrencies. On the other hand, it keeps me with both feet on the ground.
I am just glad that I can handle the swings. Money has a totally different value for me when it is invested compared to when I spend it. If I want something that costs around €100 or more, I always think about it for a couple of days. Most times, I don’t even buy it because I don’t really need it and it is a lot of money. But when it comes to my portfolio, I can lose €10 000 in two days and just laugh it off.
